Thank you for attending Exam Cram!

Last semester’s Exam Cram event proved to be beneficial to student attendees, yet again!  The event was held here at the Library & Learning Commons and was co-sponsored by the Library, Academic Support and Tutoring, and Student Alliance.  Thank you to all who attended and took advantage of the extended study hours, as well as the other services offered during the event, including tutoring.  Keep an eye out for information within a couple of months, for this semester’s Exam Cram in April.

CultureGrams Database

By Marcia Lee
Serials Specialist

Here at the Library we have so many resources available that as a staff member who only started a little under 2 years ago, I continue to discover new ones on a continuous basis.  Today’s discovery was our CultureGrams database, a quick and easy way to access basic information about countries around the world and all of the 50 states.

Did you know that approximately 300,000 aborigines lived in Australia when the first Europeans arrived in the late 1700’s?

Or that it is seen as bad luck to shake hands in a doorway in Russia?

Or that Greenland’s national costumes worn for special occasions by men & women includes polar bear hides?

Included in the CultureGrams is a “Kids Edition”, which allows you to take a look at how daily life is for children around the world – how cool is that!?  The information provides learning opportunities about everything from the people and history to food recipes and animals found in the country.  So, whether you’ve got a class project to work on or are just curious about the world we live in check out CultureGrams!
