It’s time for the 2020 Census, and as a college student, it’s important to know how your involvement counts. The decennial census collects data upon which political representation and legislation is based and return of tax dollars back to your community depends. “It doesn’t just impact their community this year — it impacts their community for the next 10 years. The census impacts power — your political representation and the resources you get” was an important message from Inside Higher Education.
Starting this week, US residents will begin receiving invitations to complete the 2020 Census. When the invitation arrives, you can respond by mailing in the form, by phone, or online. Since GRCC is not a residential college campus where residence halls report census data, it’s up to the individual to be sure to be counted. The Census Bureau states, “When responding to the 2020 Census, college students should be counted where they live and sleep most of the time as of April 1, 2020.”
