Gerrymandering – “Is it a Thing?” (YouTube available)

Proposal 2 on your November ballot is intended to fix what some perceive as gerrymandered election districts in Michigan.  Find out what gerrymandering is, what Voters Not Politicians proposes, and how gerrymandering impacts everyone while viewing the streaming video from a recent on-campus open forum.

Voters Not Politicians is a nonpartisan, grassroots group working to pass Proposal 2 that “will fix Michigan’s broken redistricting process.”  Michigan Public Radio reported on this issue and there’s an interesting TED Talk about it.   Opposing Viewpoints provides background to this issue, too.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines gerrymander as “To divide (a geographic area) into voting districts in a way that gives one party an unfair advantage in elections.”

The Faculty Association hosted this event for students, staff and faculty.  The Association is not making an endorsement for or against the proposal.
