Oooh – Ahhh – 4th of July Fireworks on the 7th

If you like firework displays, you’ll want to plan for the Grand Rapids Fireworks presented by Amway.  Because the holiday is in the middle of the week, these fireworks will “go off” on Saturday, July 7.  Get to Ah-Nab-Awen Park early and “put your dibs on” lawn space for this FREE event.   Fireworks start at 10:30, but there are plenty of other family-friendly events at the Park earlier in the evening.  See the event websiteChemistry of Fireworks book cover

Read Michael Russell’s The Chemistry of Fireworks and explores the chemistry and physics behind the art of pyrotechnics..  (Logon with last name and 7-digit Raider #.)

Steevigh Cwayna, Library Acquisitions Specialist, has put together a YouTube playlist celebrating the Fourth of July. This playlist covers everything from the story of the American Revolution in five minutes, to how to make fireworks, and to how to calm pets during fireworks!

If this has whets your appetite for more information about the American history, we have loads on the American Revolution, colonial history of the United States and materials on general U.S. History available at the library.

Have a safe holiday!
