The Musée du Louvre in France, the world’s most visited museum, recently made its entire collection available online – for free. Art historians and enthusiasts are agog about the richness of the collection, not all of which has been in the public view, until now. The Collections database includes more than 480,000 works in the Louvre and the Musée National Eugène-Delacroix, including works recovered after WWII and still pending return to their legitimate owners, as well as works on long-term loan to French and international institutions.

This online mega-collection will be a huge asset to GRCC art enthusiasts who use the ARTStor licensed database which includes quality images of works of art in worldwide museums and special collections. For other art resources, see the Visual Arts Subject Guide.
