Gale and Google Partner Up!

Gale, a part of Cengage Learning, is a database provider through which the GRCC Library is able to offer access to a variety of resources.  Recently Gale released a new opportunity for users, developed in partnership with Google.  Within Gale’s “In Context” databases users now have the capability to sign into their Google accounts from the database platform, in order to save articles found within the database directly to their Google Drives.  Beyond downloading and saving articles, while reading through documents within the database, users are able to make notes on and highlight the article text.  The markups and highlights will also be retained if the user then chooses to save the document directly in their drive.

The GRCC Library subscribes to Gale’s “Opposing Veiwpoints In Context” database, allowing students, faculty and staff to take advantage of the new functionality being offered!  Click here to be directed to the “Opposing Viewpoints In Context” database record in the library catalog, from which you can access the database and its articles.  Once you reach the database homepage, if you would like to test out the functions available, simply click on “Sign in” then log in using your Google username and password (see image below).

For more information about what kinds of content this database has to offer, below is a brief description from Gale’s website, about it:

“Opposing Viewpoints in Context is the premier online resource covering today’s hottest social issues, from capital punishment to immigration, to violent video games. This cross-curricular research tool supports science, social studies, current events, and language arts classes. Its informed, differing views present each side of an issue and help students develop information literacy, critical thinking skills, and the confidence to draw their own valid conclusions.”

Happy reading, highlighting and downloading!
