Today kicks off the fifth annual ArtPrize, taking place in beautiful downtown Grand Rapids. All week, and then some, as I’ve been coming to campus, I’ve been seeing art installations going up all over the area. Today, I had an opportunity to have a meeting near GRAM and the downtown streets were alive with art, music, and people. And most of the installations were finished!
ArtPrize runs from September 18 to October 6. The ArtPrize website has a wealth of information from planning your visit, signing up to vote, or getting involved. There are apps available for smartphones (iOS | Android) to allow you to map your visit, vote, and check-in at various locations through the event.
As GRCC is located in the heart of downtown, we have two venues that will be showcasing art this year! Spectrum Theatre will host 15 ArtPrize entries. During ArtPrize, it will be open from 5-8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, noon to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. The second location will be the Collins Art Gallery, which is located on the fourth floor of the Main building. During ArtPrize, it will display seven ArtPrize entries and the hours are 1-8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, noon to 8 p.m Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.
If ArtPrize gets you passionate about art, then be sure to come to the GRCC Library today and explore all of our art related resources, including biographies of artists, technical and technique manuals, books about art periods, and more.
