Since 1983, the third Monday of January has been designated as the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day  in celebration for his achievement and contribution  in human rights.

To celebrate this year, GRCC will be hosting a Peace March that will begin at 12 PM on Monday, January 21 at the Ford Fieldhouse and will end with a program celebration of music and presentations from schools in the greater Grand Rapids area.

In addition to the march, there will also be a drive to support Kids’ Food Basket. Please bring 100% juice boxes and Ziploc bags (sandwich & snack size) to the march if you would like to participate; a collection bin will be available.

That evening, there will be a program held from 6:30-8:30 PM, also at the Ford Fieldhouse, featuring Judge Glenda Hatchett as the keynote speaker. Judge Hatchett will be presenting on Dare to Take Charge: King’s Expectations for Greatness.

You can find out more information about the Rev. Dr. King, Jr by visiting the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service website or you can check out the materials on the Rev. Dr. King, Jr here at the library.
