April is National Poetry Month

The early spring months, in Michigan, are wrought with transition and uncertainty. One day it’s 65F and you’re wearing shorts and flip flops, the next, it’s back to sweaters and boots. Just when I feel like the tide is about to turn in the local weather, we get another threat of snow. Spring has been officially in residence for nearly two weeks now and yet it still feels like we’re preparing to hibernate instead of blooming in the sun.

Perhaps this was the mood, those melancholy transitional days between the end of winter and the rites of spring that pushed April into being national poetry month. Whatever the case may be, April is National Poetry month and you don’t have to be a poet to celebrate!

During the month of April, the library will be showcasing poets and poetry from near and far via the blog. You do not have to be enrolled in any classes to participate. To begin, first search through RaiderCat for your favorite poets or poetry. There are loads of different choices that range from epic battles such as the Epic of Gilgamesh to flowery love poems like Shakespeare’s sonnets and everything in-between.

What are you favorite poets or poetry?
